It's officially gone.
Talking to Delta, the second in command at PO yesterday on AIM yesterday..Here's what he posted on PT's staff forum, for those who can't get there

Upon some pokeage from other people, I bring word to this project I suppose of what's been going on. Before I go further, let me point out that this is everything from my own perception, and as basically the 2nd in command for PO, so this is only the final word given that there is no direct contradistinction from DC in the future, as much as I doubt this will happen.
Regardless, read on if you'd like to know. The following is the conversation I had with matt earlier today, and while I suggested he post it up here, he signed off with some events to attend to for the night so I'll do the favours here.
(14:51:46) guiltysparkzz: Hello
(14:51:56) LunarKazan: hey
(14:52:07) guiltysparkzz: What's up? Long time no see
(14:54:19) LunarKazan: Academical hell in the hole I suppose
(14:55:21) guiltysparkzz: Ack, words like that make me realise how easy grade 9 is
(14:58:20) LunarKazan: well unless youŕe swamped with crap to do often yeah I suppose... but then again I dont recall jr high being that hard
(14:58:27) LunarKazan: ... ok it was easy, blatantly so for me anyway
(15:00:14) guiltysparkzz: Ah
(15:14:23) LunarKazan: I heard PT found some programmers of their own and are going their own way... I probably have suggested something similar at the rate things are going
(15:14:44) guiltysparkzz: Well, actually two already staffies at this point
(15:14:47) guiltysparkzz: Bonzai and FMY
(15:16:26) LunarKazan: alright, gl then, you might want to go poke Dark for his help if you can get enough organization together
(15:16:43) guiltysparkzz: Dark's helping with overworlds currently
(15:17:00) guiltysparkzz: Though he's privatised them to only certain games now due to a big theft
(15:17:26) LunarKazan: not surprised.. oh well looks like everythingÅ› in good hands then
(15:18:26) LunarKazan: if you can get an alpha or whatever results out Iĺl send over the rest of all the stuff Ive accumulated over the years for your use, consider it my final contribution online
(15:18:39) guiltysparkzz: k
(15:19:01) guiltysparkzz: Is PO officially dead then? Since DC disappered off the face of the net
(15:19:09) guiltysparkzz: And you're really busy
(15:21:43) LunarKazan: I would call it a ... state of permanent hibernation. 1) the infrequent moments I can talk to DC with my questions are generally answered with vague answers, something I find hard to categorize asides from excuses
2) I do know that funding a server to run the game will cost a significant amount as Ive indicated before, especially if we want this MMO and not just likemax 50 people playing at any one time
3) judging from the general feedback Ive gotten either heś also too busy to find other people, or simply doesn care any more, but again, without any conclusive answers from him I´m left to guess at what the real situation is
(15:22:06) guiltysparkzz: Hm..
(15:22:32) guiltysparkzz: Well, our python-programmed PT, after we're done we plan to possibly make an engine
(15:22:35) LunarKazan: and with my own teaching career moving ahead I really dont have all the time in the world to devote online as a few years ago when I first joined up with PIO, the predecessor to PO
(15:23:09) guiltysparkzz: Hm..
(15:23:31) guiltysparkzz: And it appears the Pokemon Online site is gone
(15:24:40) LunarKazan: Ive told the few people who asked me about that that I don know whatÅ› up with the site, but vchat alone was running it fairly independently of DC, so talk to him if you want that
post this convo up on the pt forums if you want, itĺl probably be the final word on the whole matter
(15:25:04) LunarKazan: I´ve already told Kronos and Dark that PO is probably dead and that they should work on whatever they fancy
(15:25:22) guiltysparkzz: I haven't seen Kronos on lately
(15:25:54) guiltysparkzz: Well, I guess we'll have to remodel the PT building...PO floor is likely to be changed alot
(15:26:08) LunarKazan: wait..
(15:26:50) guiltysparkzz: I must be off...I have to be at my school to present the variety show for 6ish, that and I must eat
(15:27:16) LunarKazan: dont know if it fancies you or not, but the building I made for the PO HQ a while ago, I posted it in the PO forum staff area months ago, use it if you want
(15:27:36) guiltysparkzz: Sure
(15:27:44) guiltysparkzz: Send it if you can find it quickly
(15:27:48) LunarKazan: or edit/screw with it to suit your fancy should I say
img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Tri...Factor/POHQ.gif
(15:28:30) guiltysparkzz: Whoatastic
(15:28:59) guiltysparkzz: That looks like it will be fun to tinker with
(15:29:02) guiltysparkzz: See ya later

I'm pretty sure many of you have had doubts as to whether or not PO was going to get done, even the engine alone, due to the fairly lacklustre speed of production on our end. The only thing I can say on this matter is that at the very least, I am almost certain it will not get done; had DC been firm and concrete in his decisions for production, however inconsistent the updates be, I would have had a little more faith. However, with the unenergetic responses, I can only extrapolate to his alterior motives and desire to see this project to completion.
As I said above, I'm not sure how often I'll be around to help production, let alone talk to. I have stated that I'll be willing to contribute all the graphical and design material I've accumulated from PIO and PO to this project once it shows significant promise, which should help in the future.
I am sure several of you have anticipated such a game where one can play with others in a Pokémon online world. Regretfully, I must announce this game has come to an end. The main site has gone down for whatever reason, and I have not heard of from Vchat since on the matter.
My own waning interest in Pokémon has never quite bounced back up. It wasn't that I hated Pokémon, that I didn't. I believe it was due largely in part that I don't really watch animé in general anymore and my renewed interest in other genres and multimedia.
If any of you happen to remember me I hope you appreciate what I have done and that it pleases you. I hope that at least a portion of the Pokémon community was entertained while the preliminary production programs were publicized. The screenshots and friendly community are a plus as well.
As the 2nd in command for Pokemon Online, I am officially declaring it to be dead.
